Privacy policy
YumYums collects no personal data. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no server belonging to us for anything to be sent to.

What YumYums stores, and where
Your recipes, their photos, your meal plan and your shopping list are written to storage belonging to the app, on your iPhone or iPad. They are not sent anywhere. They are included in your device backup, whether that is iCloud Backup or an encrypted backup to your own computer, because that is how iOS backs up every app. That backup is between you and Apple; we have no access to it.
Deleting the app removes all of it. So does "Erase all recipes and lists" in Settings inside the app, and if you have sync switched on that erases the copy in your iCloud and on your other device with it. There is no copy anywhere else, which is worth knowing before you tap it.
iCloud sync, if you switch it on
YumYums can keep your library in step across your own iPhone and iPad. It is off when you install the app and there is a switch for it in Settings. While it is off, the app makes no connection to iCloud at all.
With it on, your recipes and their photographs, your meal plan and your shopping list are written to your own private iCloud database, in your own Apple Account, using your own iCloud storage. That is a place only you can read. We have no account there, no key, no dashboard and no way to see any of it, and there is still nothing to sign up for with us. Apple's own privacy policy governs the storage, in the same way it governs your photos and your device backup.
Turning the switch off stops the syncing straight away and leaves everything already on that device exactly where it is. It does not delete what is in iCloud, because your other device may still be using it; deleting that is what "Erase all recipes and lists" does, or you can remove YumYums from iCloud in the Settings app under your name.
When YumYums uses the network
There are three cases, and every one of them follows from something you did:
- Fetching a recipe page. When you paste a link, share one in, or open one from a batch, the app requests that page over HTTPS so it can read the recipe out of it.
- Fetching that recipe's photo. Downloaded once and kept on your device so the recipe still has a picture when the site changes.
- Syncing with your own iCloud, and only if you have turned that switch on. That traffic goes to Apple, on your behalf, into storage only you can read. See the section above.
Those requests go to the recipe site, not to us. The site will see them the way it sees any web browser: an IP address, a request for a page, the time of day. That is a normal consequence of visiting a web page and it is governed by that site's own privacy policy, not this one. Nothing about you or your library is attached to the request.
Nothing else in YumYums touches the network. The library, the meal plan, the shopping list, search, Cook Mode and the import preview all work with the device in flight mode, sync switched on or not: syncing is something the app catches up on when there is a connection, never something it waits for.
The on-device AI import
Reading a screenshot or a piece of pasted text uses Apple's Foundation Models framework, which runs the model on the device. The text of the page, the words read off your screenshots, and everything the model produces stay on the device. No prompt and no result is sent to Apple, to us, or to any other service. There is no API key in this app because there is no API being called.
Permissions
- Photos
- YumYums never asks for access to your photo library. The screenshot import uses the system picker, which runs outside the app and hands over only the specific images you selected. The app cannot see anything else in your library and does not hold a permission to try.
- Reminders
- Only if you choose "Export to Reminders" on the shopping list. iOS asks you first. If you allow it, YumYums writes your unchecked shopping items into a Reminders list called "Shopping list" on your device. It does not read your existing reminders and it sends nothing anywhere. If you decline, the shopping list carries on working inside the app.
- Anything else
- There is nothing else. No location, no contacts, no microphone, no camera, no health data, no notifications, no calendar.
What is not in this app
- No accounts, sign-ins, or email addresses collected.
- No analytics or usage tracking of any kind.
- No crash reporting service.
- No advertising, no advertising identifier, no App Tracking Transparency prompt, because there is nothing to track.
- No third-party software development kits at all. The app is written against Apple's frameworks and nothing else.
- No data sold, shared, or transferred to anybody, because none is collected in the first place.
Children
YumYums is rated 4+ and collects nothing from anyone, of any age. It has no chat, no user-to-user features, no in-app purchases and no links out except the "Open original recipe" button, which hands the address of a recipe you imported to Safari, where your own Screen Time settings apply.
Your rights
Data protection law gives you rights to access, correct, export and erase personal data that a company holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing to request and no request to make. Your recipes are already in your possession, on your device.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of YumYums does something that changes any of the above, this page will be updated before that version ships and the date at the top will change. The iCloud section above is an example: sync was added after the first draft of this page, and the page changed with it rather than after somebody asked. A version already on your phone cannot start collecting data: that would take an update, which you choose to install.
